Description

Description

Located at the centre of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, just a few minutes from the old town centre of Udine, near the motorway exits of Udine-Tarvisio and Venice-Trieste, the Fair Centre is a unique example of architectural beauty and natural settings. The complex lies within the Cormor Park, on a former 19th century cotton mill site, still crossed by the waters of the Ledra canal, once the engine of the old industry. Gently nestled in a lushly landscaped area, the Fair has undergone many a refurbishment and renovation, designed to combine industrial archaeology, new facilities and the landscape, creating a fascinating architectural design where the old blends with the new. The Fair Centre holds nine pavilions, plus a first-class, well-equipped congress centre and an extensive green area, spreading over approximately 31,000 m2. Of striking beauty, the former foundry, today Pavilion 9, dates back to 1885 and still displays the main elements of the original building: from its wooden roofing with the typical skylight to the concrete pillars and outside brick walls. The full-height space holds two steel intermediate floors, modern features guaranteeing greater usability. Pavilion 8 has kept unscathed the charm of industrial pavilions, with an extensive space limited by cast iron columns. The newly-built facilities include the prestigious Sala Bianca: full of light and affording a panoramic view, the Hall is hosted on the first floor of the new western entrance, and is the ideal venue for exhibitions and congresses. The functional features and accommodation capacity of the Congress Centre can be greatly expanded by interacting with the nine surrounding pavilions, and it can play host to competitions, cultural and sports events, shows, concerts, festivals, happenings and fairs. Capping the offer, the equipped green areas, the perfect spot to host all sorts of events in a landscape of stunning beauty: from open-air cinema to catwalks. Precious tree species, squirrels, woodpeckers and waterfalls form the background to all the events. The multi-functional centre has been entirely conceived with a view to the absence of architectural barriers

Places to go

Places to go

Lying at the centre of Friuli, from the hill of its castle, Udine appears as an animated chain of buildings, streets and squares recalling the good old Venetian days, protected north by the Carnic mountain range and south by the plains heralding the blue horizon of the sea.

Piazza della Libertà One of the most enchanting Venetian squares on the mainland: a harmonic blend of full and empty spaces of the colonnade of S. Giovanni, with its tower clock and the Lionello loggia, placed on different levels, and dominated by the Castle hill.

Lionello Loggia Magnificent example of Venetian Gothic style, the historical seat of the Town Hall, built in the mid 15th century, featuring its characteristic alternating bands of white and pink stone, the elegantly slim design of the colonnade and the small arch windows.

Modern Art Gallery Home since 1968 to the Palamostre, displaying the collection of Italian contemporary art and a large number of action painting, pop and minimal US art works.
