MEETING OF THE AEFI TECHNICAL COMMISSION AT HAMBURG

THE EXHIBITION DISTRICT AND CONGRESS CENTRE AS POSITIVE EXAMPLES OF INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT THANKS TO MAJOR PUBLIC INVESTMENT

The summer meeting of the AEFI Technical Commision, coordinated by Nazario Pedini, was held on 4 and 5 July. As last year, this meeting was dedicated to an update based on the experience of other countries.The location for the 2019 summer meeting was Hamburg, a highly dynamic city in continuous growth, and at the cutting edge in terms of infrastructure and logistics for exhibitions and resources for visitors and exhibitors.The afternoon of Thursday 4 July was dedicated to a tour of the port of Hamburg, one of Europe’s major logistics hubs, and to a meeting with the directors of GMP architecture studio, who presented some of their most innovative international projects for exhibition and congress centres. GMP works all over the world and has designed numerous exhibition centres over the years, as well as structural upgrades to existing districts. In Italy, it was responsible for thedesign of the Rimini Exhibition Centre as well as a number of projects for the Veronafiere district. GMP stands out for its ability to interpret the rationality of design in the light of the actual needs of exhibition centres,and every project they undertake is customised to satisfy the requirements of the country in question.Friday 5 July was dedicated to a tour of Hamburg Messe und Congressand the CCH-Congress Center Hamburg, representative venues selected by AEFI as outstanding examples which stimulate consideration of the role of exhibitions and how to optimise our own exhibition districts. Hamburg Messe und Congress is a model exhibition district and congress centre whose infrastructures are perfectly interconnected with each other. Located in the centre of the city and perfectly in tune with its architecture, Hamburg Messe und Congresswas conceived with client’s needs in mind, with the aim of creating an environment in which business and the pleasure of visiting the city combine to best effect. The centre offers a rich schedule of national and international events which attract professionals and visitors from around the world, and make a significant contribution to economic growth. The CCH–Congress Center Hamburg, currently being restored, will open again next year with expanded facilities and a structure which marries its more than 40 years of history with the requirements of the future.Thanks to their incorporation as a publicly own company, Hamburg Messe und Congressand CCH–Congress Center Hamburgare growing fast, since theyare supported by the city government and major public investments, which play a crucial role in making them ever more technological and innovative.

AEFI -Associazione Esposizioni e Fiere Italiane, aprivate non-profit Association,was established in 1983 with the goal of generating synergies between the most important Italian exhibition districts. AEFI would like to be seen as a privileged partner for operators and institutions alike, and its role isto support members through the development of activities and programmes in the sphere of training, marketing, promotion and research, as well as to provide services for trade fairs through the activities of its Committees: Exhibition Hub Technical Committee, Legal-Administrative Committee, Internationalisation Committee and Trade Fairs Network Committee.On the internationalization front, AEFI supports members thanks to agreements with strategic markets. To date, partnerships have been agreed with Iran, Taiwan, Lebanon, India, Thailand and South Africa, with AmCham, the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy, with CENTREX, the International Exhibition Statistics Union and with EUPIC-EU Project Innovation Center. A memorandum of understanding has been signed with SACE and SIMEST.AEFI has promoted the foundation of ISFCert, the Certification Institute for Exhibition Industry Statistics which, through rigorous methodologies, enables Italian organisers to present and recognise standardised data, in the name of transparency and reliability. AEFI represents Italian trade fairs in UFI -Union of International Fairs. Chaired by Giovanni Laezza, AEFI counts 36 member exhibition districts, which organise over 1000 events a year across an overall exhibition area of 4.2 million square metres. Nearly all international and national trade fairs which take place each year in Italy are held in AEFI-member exhibition districts
