AEFI PRESENTS THE CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ITALIAN EXHIBITION CENTRES “THE EXHIBITION SYSTEM, THE DIGITAL ECONOMY AND THE GDPR”

The exhibition system, the digital economy and the GDPR” is the title of the conference organised by AEFI-Associazione Esposizioni e Fiere Italiane to present the Code of Conduct drawn up by the Association to facilitate Italian exhibition centres in implementing the privacy regulations set out in EU
Regulation 2016/679.

The conference, to be held tomorrow, Wednesday 18 September at the Veronafiere premises, is intended to present the project to all industry stakeholders and initiate the process of public consultation.

Following the enactment of EU Regulation 2016-679 (GDPR) on the processing and protection of personal data, the AEFI Juridical Administrative Commission, coordinated by Giovanni Barbato, immediately initiated the procedures required to draw up a Code of Conduct for exhibition centres, in order to facilitate them in observing the applicable privacy requirements.

The Code of Conduct details the legal and ethical conduct considered most appropriate to the industry. Giovanni Laezza, President of AEFI, will make the opening remarks, followed by detailed presentations by Giovanni Barbato and Alessandro Savoia, Coordinator and Vice-Coordinator respectively of the AEFI Juridical Administrative Commission, who will also illustrate the advantages of adopting the Code of Conduct which enables our Associates to handle common difficulties and issues efficiently, uniformly and with economy of means.

Sergio Fumagalli and Francesca Lonardo, partners of P4I, the consultancy which supported AEFI in drawing up the Code of Conduct, will present the Code and explain the procedures resulting in its approval by the Data
Protection Authority.

AEFI – Associazione Esposizioni e Fiere Italiane, a private non-profit Association, was established in 1983 with the goal of generating synergies between the most important Italian exhibition districts. AEFI would like to be seen as a privileged partner for operators and institutions alike, and its role is to support members through the development of activities and programmes in the sphere of training, marketing, promotion and research, as well as to provide services for trade fairs through the activities of its Committees: Exhibition Hub Technical Committee, Legal-Administrative Committee, Internationalisation Committee and Trade Fairs Network Committee. On the internationalization front, AEFI supports members thanks to agreements with strategic markets. To date, partnerships have been agreed with Iran, Taiwan, Lebanon, India, Thailand and South Africa, with AmCham, the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy, with CENTREX, the International Exhibition Statistics Union and with EUPIC-EU Project Innovation Center. A memorandum of understanding has been signed with SACE and SIMEST. AEFI has promoted the foundation of ISFCert, the Certification Institute for Exhibition Industry Statistics which, through rigorous methodologies, enables Italian organisers to present and recognise standardised data, in the name of transparency and reliability.
AEFI represents Italian trade fairs in UFI – Union of International Fairs. Chaired by Giovanni Laezza, AEFI has 36 member exhibition districts, which organise over 1000 events a year across an overall exhibition area of 4.2 million square metres. Nearly all international and national trade fairs which take place each year in Italy are held in AEFI-member exhibition districts.
