E. A. FIERA DEL LEVANTE BARI
Lungomare Starita 13 - 70123 Bari, Bari (BA), Puglia - Italia Phone: 080/5366111 Fax: 080/5366486
With its 300,000 m2, Fiera del Levante is one of its kind in the Mezzogiorno, in terms of total space and versatile settings, capable of satisfying every exhibition requirement. Initially spreading over 100,000 m2, the fairgrounds then gradually extended with the rising ambitions and potentials of the Fair. Strategically positioned near the main routes, the Fair is 10 minutes away from Bari Palese Airport and just 2 km from the town centre, near the main tourist destinations of Apulia. The Fair has six entrance gates, named after the main events held in the adjoining pavilions, for instance, the Building or Farming entrances. The main entrance, the socalled “Monumentale”, looks on the sea, as if to symbolically reconnect to the solid relationship with the Mediterranean. The roofed area, covering over 150,000 m2, is split up into 44 adjoining pavilions and 33 freestanding pavilions. The facilities are able to host either complex events requiring the special exhibition experience built up by the Fair out of over 70 years in the business, or major congresses hosting over 5,000 people, beside seminars and leisure events (shows, fashion parades). Space 7, with approximately 1,500 seats in a theatrestyle layout, recently renovated and fitted with the latest technologies, is the best congress offering of Fiera del Levante. Thanks to its modular spaces, congress activities can be complemented by exhibitions, shows and catering services. The Palazzo del Mezzogiorno, an imposing structure standing next to the east entrance gate, is an integrated congress centre too, with four rooms that can be used to manage several events at the same time. The convenient parking facilities and broad pathways leading in and outside the grounds smoothen the work to organize concerts and shows.
The new city spreads over a large quadrilateral area and surrounds the old town centre. A hustling and bustling place, Bari is a city imbued in its century-old richness of Byzantine origin, enclosed by the walls. It is one of the most fascinating centres in southern Italy: a stroll in the alleys is a worthwhile experience, amidst the medieval atmosphere still unscathed and less trodden by tourists.
Cathedral Built in the XII century, the austere furnishings and arched side aisles give it an extremely lean design. The apse holds a large window decorated with animal-like figures.
San Nicola Basilica Reputed as being the paradigm of Romanesque style in Apulia (XI-XII), its extraordinary main door features gladiators, lions and elephants.
Castle An impressive stronghold flanked by the ramparts, formerly the residence of Frederick II, then of the mighty Milanese Bona Sforza family.
Alberobello At a close distance from the Apulian capital city lies one of the most interesting places in the region. A trip to the old town centre gives you the chance to admire the peculiar architectural design of the famous trulli. Once peasant dwellings used as respite by the “cozzari” and as storeroom for farming tools, the trulli were recently added to the Unesco World Heritage List.
