George Cojocaru re-elected UFI Vice-President
Bucharest – George Cojocaru, the President and General Director of ROMEXPO, has recently been re-elected for a two-year term as Vice-President of the European section of UFI – the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. The announcement was made through a letter signed by the UFI Executive Director, Vincent Gerard, according to a press release remitted to Nine O’ Clock yesterday. The 322 UFI members, who come from 73 countries, organise 4,500 exhibition events that draw over 150 M visitors annually. Only 747 of all the exhibition events held annually meet the agreement of the UFI, an expression of the Association’ exigency for its members to comply with a certain standard of services. Romexpo holds 5 events agreed by UFI, namely TIB, TIBCO, Rommedica, Rompharma and Romcontrola. In order to seat on the UFI board, a person should run in their own name and hold the position of head of a company organising fairs and exhibitions. A President, a first Vice-President and three Vice-Presidents have been picked from among the 181 members of the European section. George Cojocaru has sat on the UFI Board of Directors since year 2000. According to the source quoted, in his previous term, Cojocaru set out, and succeeded to a rapprochement of UFI to EU structures, with UFI’s offer to foster the objectives of the Lisbon Agenda being the first concrete step toward that direction. Negotiations are underway for a cooperation agreement between UFI and Eurochambres – the organisations of Chambers of Commerce in the EU states.
