The Reggio Emilia Fair Centre lies very close to the A1 Milan-Bologna motorway tollbooth, and is well-connected to the main roads, the railway station and town centre by an effective public transport system. The fairgrounds cover a totalof 105,000 m2 and contain four pavilions, three covered and one unroofed. The three 120 x 48 m pavilions have no structural encumbrances and can therefore adjust the fittings to the broadest range of exhibition requirements. A modern and welcoming complex, the Fair combines elegant spaces, credibifunctional services and effective organization, qualities that make it the ideal place to host exhibitions and congresses. Its halls are equipped with the latest in teaching tools, and its 200-seat congress hall is perfectly fitted to cater to every user need. The space is also equipped with cantilever roofs to shelter animals, necessary to host the leading pig show in Europe. Large parking facilities, cafés, restaurant and a self service complement the range of services offered and raise the professional image of the centre. The Reggio Emilia Fair was the first in Italy to install wireless Internet in the pavilions. Since 2003, the spaces have been covered by a wireless network powered by Wifair, technological partner of Ente Fiera di Reggio Emilia. A service made available to all fair users, and a vital tool to help exhibitors showcase their products by tapping into the opportunities offered by the Web.

A thriving trade hub ever since the medieval ages, Reggio nell’Emilia became the silk capital in the XV century, famous throughout Europe. The city lies in the vast Po Valley, amidst expanses of cereal and fodder crops for cattle and pig breeding: from the former, the unmatchable Parmigiano Reggiano.

Duomo Romanesque origins (IX century), though radically renovated over the centuries, the cathedral is a treasure trove of works by Reggio artists. On the square, the Town Hall with its unique Sala del Tricolore, named so for being the birth place of the Italian three-coloured flag.

San Prospero Basilica One of the most beautiful churches in Reggio nell’Emilia, built in 1514-23, while the facade dates back to the mid 18th century. An enchanting contrast of colours, from the red fired bricks of the church to the stone of the octagonal bell tower. On the churchyard, six large Renaissance lions.

Town museums The collections started in 1799 by Lazzaro Spallanzani were later enriched in the second half of the 19th century by Gaetano Chierici, who founded the Gabinetto di Antichità Patrie, the Museum of Native History and the palaeoethnology and ethnography museums and glyptotheca. Also worthwhile visiting, the Spallanzani Museum of Natural Sciences.

The Lands of Matilda afford a stunning scenery, though known to the few. On its gentle hills, the Rossena castle, quaint stronghold falling sheer to the Campotrera quarries, and the Canossa castle, its ruins nestled on top of a 76 m cliff.
