The City Implementation Plan (PUA) passed in 2005 envisages, by 2010, the implementation and development of the existing facilities inside the Mostra d’Oltremare. A plan whose target is to increase the scores of offers the local area isalready able to boast.

The multifunctional park hosts exhibition and congress areas and spaces put to use for culturalevents. Exhibitions get 10 of the pavilions, measuring from 600 to 3,000 m2, and properly fitted to guarantee quality services. Cultural events (concerts, speshows) are held in splendid architectural designs, amongst the finest of the period. An outstanding complex is the Arena Flegrea, designed in 1940 by architect G. De Luca and reopened in 2001. This is the first open-air opera theatre in Italy, with a capacity of 6,000 seats, and perfectly blending in the landscape. Designed using travertine marble, the theatre evokes the linear and bombastic spaces typical of Fascist architecture. Like the recently renovated Latin American Pavilion (1940, architect B. La Padua, 1952, M. Capobianco, A. Marsiglia, A. Sbriciolo), with architectural elements recalling functionalism, it is the ideal venue for quality art exhibitions.

As far as leisure time is concerned, Mostra d’Oltremare can rely on an 820-seat theatre, two swimming pools, four tennis courts and a playground. It can also boast one of the largest congress centres in southern Italy, with 30 halls able to accommodate 2,000 people. In 2006, the imposing Fontana dell’Esedra was reopened,a perfect location for gala evenings, used to arrange spectacular games of water and light and to host musical events. The arboretum and the “Bagni di Fasilides” pool add enormously to the site’s enchantment. In 2007, works will start on the former ISEF to turn it into a new congress centre, with a conference hall equipped to accommodate up to 1,400 seats. 2009 will see the building of the largest congress facility in Italy, with a conference hall for 5,000 seats and supporting exhibition areas. In 2010, the Mostra d’Oltremare will be able to count on two new hotels, restaurants, cultural facilities and a Borgo dell’Artigianato dedicated to the Fair’s users and tourists.
