The Cagliari Fair Centre, renovated several times to meet the evolving exhibition requirements, enjoys a panoramic position at the heart of the coast city. Situated in the famous viale Armando Diaz, it lies 1 km away from the Cagliari port, the Town Hall and the seat of the Regional Council. From the initial 15,000 m2, the Fair currently spreads over a roofed surface of 36,000 m2, and includes 12 pavilions and 3 congress facilities. Several pavilions are located on different levels, while others are based on the ground floor. The exhibition spaces were designed on a project by several architects and engineers such as architect Libera, who designed the recently renovated Sala Figari. Part of the Exhibition Centre since 2003, the Culture and Congress Centre, thanks to its facilities and technological resources, has become a leading-edge complex at European level. Three facilities form what is, by all means, a congress citadel: the Congress Centre, the Multisala Pavilion and Sala Figari, capable of hosting events for 300 to 3,000 people. With a total accommodation capacity of over 3,000 seats, it has become the congress space par excellence not only in Sardinia, but also in the Mediterranean area. On the strength of such a strategic position, the Congress Centre has played a key role in repositioning the Fair, now keen on drawing new sectors of the public and new markets to shake off Sardinia’s association with seaside tourism only. Set in extensive green spaces and surrounded by lush gardens, the Fair has that welcoming atmosphere typical of southern fairs. Dotted with benches and fountains to liven up the spaces, the Fair also runs open-air refreshment rooms that offer a pleasant respite in the summer season. A Fair whose main goal is to become the Fair of the Mediterranean.

Traditionally the leading port of Sardinia, Cagliari is a wonderful Mediterranean city abounding with so many archaeological treasures, lying at the centre of the homonymous gulf, tucked inside an extraordinary landscape, with beaches of beautiful white sand wedged between jagged coastlines, lush woods and caves.

Altura Castle: the city’s stronghold, fortified during the mediaeval ages, the old district enclosed partly by the walls with its two white stone mediaeval towers. A nice walk can start off from the entrances of the Saint Pancrazio tower or from porta dei Leoni, and continue through the maze of shaded alleys abounding with traditional small workshops or with restoration laboratories. Brace yourself for the sudden,  spectacular glimpses you may get from the S. Remy rampart or along the Balice and Santa Croce wall. The most important churches are the Santa Maria cathedral, which has undergone many a renovation, and the 16th century Purissima church. From via Fra’ Ignazio da Laconi, you can catch a glimpse of the Roman amphitheatre, carved completely in the rock. The Marina district hits you with the contrast between the stillness of its tiny streets, squares and flights of steps behind the port, and the hustle and bustle of largo Carlo Felice and via Manno, the business hub of Cagliari.

Pay a visit to the S. Gilla lagoon, just outside Cagliari, to admire the colonies of pink flamingos. Or to Nora (about 20 km away), one of the oldest centres in Sardinia, with Phoenician ruins at the bottom of the path leading to the sea.
