The visit by the AEFI Technical Commission paid to Genève Palaexpo on 16th and 17th June should be considered as part of the continuous training activity carried out by the members, activity that therefore includes visiting the most significant international Fair Trade Centres.

Representatives of Palexpo SA , the company that runs Geneve Palaexpo organising trade fairs, conferences, congresses and events of every kind either in autonomy and for third parties, explained their practices and what they are facing.
The company, whose main shareholder is Geneve State, aims for the diffusion of sciences, culture, arts, sports and philantropic activities.

It was a very useful experience for the Italian trade fairs technicians who took part to the visit.

AEFI members can access to the trip report through the reserved area.

aefi

ETTORE RIELLO IS THE NEW PRESIDENT OF AEFI

Ettore Riello, President of Verona Fairs and international entrepreneur in the mechanical sector, is the new President of AEFI, Italian association of Exhibitions and Fairs. The association represents 40 fair bodies operating in 43 different locations. These bodies host or organise more than one thousand exhibitions a year, allowing the movement of 20 million operators and attracting the participation of 200 thousand companies. The trade fairs organised in Italy close business for 20 billion euro a year; 50% of Italian exports are born out of contacts arising from participation in exhibitions. Three Italian firms out of four consider these fairs as an essential tool for business development. Numbers which place the national fair system to global heights, second only to Germany.

The AEFI Congress, held today at Rimini Fair, was opened by a report from the outgoing president Raffaele Cercola, which illustrated the work done in the last four years.

By the end, Ettore Riello was unanimously appointed President of AEFI. The importance of this character, his authority and esteem that he enjoys within the membership will be very useful for AEFI to ensure its role in dealing with the economic levels and institutions of our Country, especially in this delicate and complex moment for the activity of trade fair associations.

Four Vice Presidents were also appointed: Lorenzo Cagnoni (President of Rimini fairs), Giovanni Laezza (General Manager of Riva del Garda Exhibition Centre), Duccio Campagnoli (Board of Directors for Bologna Fairs) and Franco Boni (President of Parma fairs)

"I am particularly honoured to provide my experience as an entrepreneur, as a man of economic business associations and as President of Veronafiere in order for Aefi to grow in this particularly delicate phase for the future of Italian fairs and the global economy – underlines the newly elected president Ettore Riello – The goal is an association which responds effectively to the expectations of its members, having the business customers as an important reference point as well as the role that the fairs can and will have on the International promotional system”.

"Bring Innovation to trade fairs to beat the recession - Ideas and strategies from the Italian trade fair system" is the title of the latest study published by AEFI intended to be a starting point for the establishment of a system of strategic monitoring of the sector that is able to provide different stakeholders with an updated outlook of both the contributions of the trade fair sector to the economy and its critical issues.
The research involved all the major national trade fair centres and aimed at highlighting the magnitude of the impact that the recession is having on trade fair activities, that is set to continue in the coming months. However, it was also aimed at pointing out certain routes that many trade fair centres have already embarked upon in order to conform their strategies with structural changes which are currently underway.
The research also detailed the actions that central and local institutions should take to tackle the major issues that the national trade fair establishment faces, and to avoid the economic crisis weakening the sector which, to this day, is still one of the strongest in the world.

The entire survey can be consulted and downloaded in the "Articles and Surveys" section in the reserved area.

aefi
